Constable DUNCAN McINTYRE

1940

About 12.10pm on 25 June 1940, a horse, yolked to a lorry loaded with pipes, took fright and bolted. It collided with a vehicle and some of the pipes fell onto the road. Constable McIntyre saw the horse at the Round Toll, grabbed the reins and held on. He was dragged for some distance before the horse mounted the pavement and fell. The Constable then hung onto the horse until the carter arrived and took control. (London gazette - 12.6.41)
