On 6 June 1923, Constable Sparks was informed that an armed robber had shot and
wounded a man in a nearby park. Constable Sparks requisitioned a private car
and overtook the armed youth who shot at the car.
Constable Sparks exited the vehicle and advanced on the youth in a crouching position.
As the youth aimed the loaded pistol, the officer threw his baton striking
him and then he successfully overpowered him.
